Rookies Pace North Country in Falcons 6-1 Win Over Lake Region

NEWPORT–In just their second match this season, the North Country girls' tennis team improved to 1-1 with a 6-1 triumph over Lake Region Wednesday afternoon.
Coach Marie George, looking to get some of her younger players some guaranteed playing time, had the match kick off with the numbers one, four and five singles and number two doubles taking the courts.
In Lake Region's only win on the day, Kelly LeBlanc bested Rhiannon Rosamillia in number one singles action when after splitting the first two sets 6-4, 4-6, she won 11-9 in the race to ten tie breaker.
"Even though she lost, Rhiannon had a great match," said George.
The number four and five singles matches also went in OT, with Carlie Diette beating Shannon Dunlavey 6-2, 4-6, 10-5, and Annie Arcoleo defeating Brianna Fontaine 6-2, 7-6, 7-0.
In other singles action, Kelsey O'Donnell went over Desirae Colorado 6-4, 6-0 and in her first varsity match India Bluett beat Miranda Beaudry 6-2, 6-3.
The doubles matches also featured rookies for the Falcons, and both duos excelled in their first taste of varsity tennis action.
The number one pair of Danielle Therrien and Duyen Dao defeated Kaitlyn Wright and Shaylyn Beatton 7-6, 6-1 and Sonya Hinton and Moriah Lafoe beat Cassidy Weiss and Arcaeli Derbyshire 6-0, 6-1.
The girls will look to improve to 2-1 when they travel to Stowe today to take on the Raiders at
