NEWPORT–The North Country Falcons dropped their second straight game on Thursday afternoon, losing to Mount Mansfield 5-3.
It was a close battle for the Falcons, as they struck early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
MMU starter Grant McKinstrie gave up a fluky hit to Taylor Miller, then proceeded to walk five straight batters, plating the three North Country runs.
After that McKinstrie would be unhittable, fanning fifteen, including the final ten batters he faced.
"We got behind in a lot of counts," said Coach Bonvechio," we did not take a good approach at the plate.
Tom Blake was on the hill for the Falcons, going six, and not allowing a base hit until the 5th inning.
The Cougars would get their scoring from utilizing the double steal and the suicide squeeze, along with some sloppy play by the North Country infield, picking up a run in the second, three in the fifth, and one in the seventh.
