Hardwickâ Solange âSallyâ Rolande McAllister, 88, of Hardwick died Sunday February 19, 2012 at the Greensboro Nursing Home. She was born June 25, 1923 in Westfield, the daughter of the late Oliver and Olivina (Neunier) Pion.
She attended Westfield public schools. In 1941 she married Stanley William McAllister in Troy. She was employed at the Hardwick Knitwear for 12 years, and for more than 26 years she worked as a cook and nanny for Ogden Reid in Purchase, New York. She retired in the late 1990âs. She returned to Hardwick where she has since made her home.
Solange was a member of St. Norbertâs Catholic Church and Court St. Veronica Catholic Daughters, both in Hardwick. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and cooking.
Survivors include her daughter Gloria McAllister and her husband Richard Leidenfrost of Crescent City, FL; her five sons: Leon McAllister and his wife Pat; Raoul McAllister; Wilfred âWillieâ McAllister and his wife Claudette; and Russell McAllister and his wife Cheryl, all of Hardwick; and Conrad McAllister and his wife Juanell of Orlando, FL; two brothers: Raymond Pion of Lowell and Roger Pion of Barton, 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two sisters: Jeanette Benoit and Marie B. Boudreau; and three brothers: Roland, Rene and Sam Pion.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening 6-8 p.m. at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm Street, Hardwick, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Norbertâs Church in Hardwick with Father Absalon Florenosos celebrant. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Mary Queen of all Saints Parish, P.O. Box 496, Hardwick, VT 05843.
