NEWPORT CITY â€“ Non-union city employees may now accrue as much as six hours of paid sick time a month, up to nine days per year, which is in line with what the public works department employees have. Up until now non-union employees had four hours of sick time.
In 1998, the public works department employees and non-union employees had their sick time reduce from eight days to four days. During last contract negotiations, public works department employees got two of their hours back.
