DERBY - Some residents of Derby experienced a temporary power outage Sunday when a motor vehicle ran into and snapped a utility pole, downing lines on RT 5 in Derby.
Joannalynn Robishaw of Derby, VT, was north of Walt's Sales and Service and headed towards Derby in this Dodge Caravan when she went to reach for an item and her vehicle drifted into the northbound lane of travel, said police. To avoid hitting an oncoming car, Robishaw crossed the northbound lane and struck a telephone pole, snapping it in half.
Robishaw, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to North Country Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene. D
erby Line Fire Department responded to the crash site. A transmitter and live wires fell to the ground and police had to temporarily block traffic.
