The late snow creates some additional challenges for an industry already facing countless issues â€” farming. The winter ban, imposed by the stateâ€™s Acceptable Agriculture Practices Regulations, on spreading manure ends April 1. Farmers have been storing manure in pits, and the pits are likely full or close to it. But with the deep snow pack it will be difficult to begin spreading the fertilizer on fields.
