NEPWORT - Developer Bill Stenger is hoping to get a U.S. Port of Entry at the waterfront hotel he is proposing on the shores of international Lake Memphremagog in Newport.
He made the announcement at a press briefing last week to present an update on all the projects planned in the $600-million economic revitalization effort for the Northeast Kingdom.
Stenger is in talks with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to make it happen and hopes to allow float planes, which can land on water, to come in at the hotel.
Co-developer Ariel Quiros announced that a light plane manufacturer is coming to the area. Parts for the planes are already in Miami, FL. The first will arrive in late May. The planes will be assembled at the Newport Airport in Coventry.
