NEWPORT CITY - Three men are now in jail following a brutal home invasion. Donald Cross, 46, of Newport, is being held on $50,000 cash or surety bond; David Fletcher, 20, of Coventry, and Peter Cirone, 43, of Newport, are each being held on $20,000.
The three are lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility.
After receiving a 9-1-1 call early Sunday morning, Newport City Police headed to Second Street and found a man, Mark Perron, covered in blood with lacerations on his face and who could barely speak. Perron had made his way to a neighbor’s home following the assault.
In an affidavit by a Newport City Patrolman, Perron gave police permission to enter his apartment.
Police found the apartment in complete disarray with blood on the walls, flooring, and on several other items. A frying pan was found covered in blood and dented. Furniture was toppled over and appliances and other items were strewn about. Police found a metal chair, dishes, a mattress, and fire extinguisher, all of which appeared to have blood on them.
Perron was taken to North Country Hospital and transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. His injuries are extensive and include several metal fragments imbedded in his skull, court records state. Perron told police that he had been beat with objects and shot several times a close range with a pellet gun, Moulton wrote.
The alleged perpetrators are also accused of stealing money during the invasion.
Police took Cross and Cirone into custody, and later found Fletcher. All three admitted to the alleged assault to police during an interview, court records state.
All three were arraigned Monday in Orleans Superior Court Criminal Court, each pleading innocent to the felony charges of assault and robbery with a weapon, aggravated assault, and burglary. Each has been ordered to provide a DNA sample.
