The nets have been strung, lines have been painted and the grass has been mowed in anticipation of the 2012 Derby Wildcat season.
At the helm of one of the girls U-14 teams are Eric and Jenn Daigle and Chris Goulet. They are taking on the job of shaping, mentoring, and improving the skills of 16 young women and tasked with bringing them together to work as a team.
The Derby Wildcats have a core of returning players. Sarah Bilodeau, Elizabeth (Libby) Chitamber, Mya Daigle, Amy DeLaBruere, Elizabeth Gaudreau, Carley Giroux, Faith Gosselin, Kathryn (Katie) Goulet, Hannah Lancaster, Olivia Miller, Brooke Morley, Dasha Plotnikov and Dehlia Wright.
This year the team is excited to welcome Brooke Breault, Delaney Bryant, and Arianna Guillette. Welcome aboard to these young women, can’t wait to see what you bring to this already fantastic team.
They have been practicing hard inside and couldn’t wait to get out on the field. The team has been working to hone their skills and get back in to the rhythm of playing together as a team for another season.
It is going to be a busy year for these young soccer players. Not only do they have regular season games but they are going to be matching up against teams in different tournaments as well. Memorial Day Weekend the team will be traveling to New Hampshire to test their skills in the Presidents Cup. They are representing Vermont in the U-13 age group. If they persevere, they could earn themselves a trip to California. The team will also be participating in the annual Essex Soccer Tournament. It has become a tradition to end the season with some fantastic soccer over a span of two days in the sometimes hot, sweltering, or rainy, arctic weather at the end of June.
The team’s opening season game is Sunday May, 6 at 1:30pm. If you want to see a team with grit, determination and heart, take a drive to North Country Junior High School to see a game that is sure to thrill, chill, and entertain. To see their full schedule go to Vermont Soccer League website and look under the U-14 girls section. This team is ready to test themselves against the 2012 season competition. Good Luck Wildcats, may this be a season to remember.
