NEWPORT–In their first match since completing their inter-squad playdowns, North Country's boys' tennis team unveiled a new look line-up that had Travers Parsons-Grayson in the one spot, Dave Durivage in the two, Zach Tweed at three, Maoz Knight fourth and Thomas Durivage playing in the number five singles position.
Fred Petzold and Steve Raboin played number one doubles with newcomers Kody Halikas and Peter Steuwe making their debut at the number two.
The revamped Falcons were at home on Wednesday, playing host to the U-32 Raiders, but they did not achieve the desired outcome, dropping the contest 4-3 to make their official record 0-1 on the season.
In the number one match, Parsons-Grayson fell 6-1, 6-1, to Greg Asnis.
Said Atchinson, "It was a good first match (at number one). He worked hard and learned what he needs to improve on."
Dave Durivage also lost playing at number two position. Dave went down 6-3, battled back in the second set to win 6-1, but fell in the tie tiebreaker 10-0 to Luke LaRosa.
Zach Tweed, in a rare 'Zach versus Zach' battle with the Raiders Zach Fielder, earned the Falcons first win with what the coach described as "good, intelligent, steady tennis."
He defeated Fielder 6-3, 6-3.
Jordan Blaise was able to handle Maoz Knight 6-3, 6-3 in the number four singles contest. Atchinson was happy with Knight's effort, but said the senior still has a few things he needs to work on.
Rounding out singles play, Thomas Durivage took care of Austin McEathron 6-2, 6-2.
"It was a stellar performance," said the coach describing the younger Durivage's match.
In doubles competition the duo of Raboin and Petzoldt got their game going in the end, but it was too late as they went down 6-3, 6-4.
In their first match of the season Halikas and Steuwe set down Ethan Fielder and Colin Nealon 6-2, 6-2 to earn their first win of the season.
The boys are now off for better than a week, and will resume action at the tail end of their break when they travel to Middlebury on Saturday the 21st for 10:00 showdown with the Tigers
