BARRE–The Lake Region Rangers girls Babe Ruth softball squad improved their summer record to 3-0 Wednesday, with a drizzly 12-6 victory over Barre.
Played in a constant mild rain, the Rangers jumped out to an early 8-3 lead. They would maintain that lead before the game was eventually called due to field conditions after five innings of play.
Hannah Leroux, Michelle Thibeault, and Whitney Poginy had two hits apiece for LR, while Alyssa Royer swiped a pair of bases and scored three times.
Thibeault picked up the win on the bump, allowing just three hits while striking out five.
Earlier in the week, the Rangers notched their second win of the summer, thumping Hardwick by a 20-0 count. Michelle Thibeault and three relievers kept the Hardwick bats in check while the Ranger bats provided more than enough offense.
The Rangers jumped out for six runs in the first and never looked back. Sarah Burnham smacked four hits on the day for LR, while Alyssa Royer and Bianca Mackay added three each. Callie Cashin tallied four steals and crossed the plate four times in the Rangers 21-hit attack.
Thibeault struck out five in two innings of work before giving way to Hannah Leroux. Leroux was no less impressive, whiffing all three batters she faced. Cashin and Whitney Poginy each tossed an inning apiece to close out the run-rule shortened contest.
