CANAAN â€“ The UCA Crusaders took to the road Tuesday night to face off against Canaan, but unfortunately both teams came home emptied handed, with the boys losing 66-48, and the girls falling 69-25.
To the boys game first. After trailing by 22 at half, Coach Tony DelaBruere said his team â€ścame out ready to play in the 2nd half;â€ť and that they, â€śhad a certain game plan and they executed it in the 2nd half.â€ť
United Christian had 3 players score in double figures, led by Paul Samaanâ€™s 22, Dale Martell and Jon DelaBruere each chipped in with 12.
UCA will play its next game after the Christmas Holiday, when they face off against the Websterville Warriors on Tuesday the 27th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 at the Newport City Elementary School.
The United Christian Academy girls came home on the wrong side of a lopsided 69-25 defeat.
Coach Sarah Roy said that she has, â€śBeen trying to implement a new half court man-to-man defense.â€ť And that â€śshe felt she caught Canaan off-guard in the 3rd quarter when she deployed this tactic.â€ť
Laura Libby led UCA with 7 points, Hannah Piette chipped in with 6, and Nicole Roy, Sydney Whipple, and Christina Maxwell each added 4.
The Crusaders will have a week layoff before they take to the hardwood again on Tuesday, December 27th, with a 1:00 matinee against the Chelsea Red Devils. The game will be held at the Newport City Elementary School.
