DERBY - By an 8-1 vote the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the rights of a Wyoming landowner who had a railroad right-of-way converted to a bike trail. The court ruled government easements used for railroad beds over public and private land expired once the railroad went out of business.
Years ago the State of Vermont claimed the railroad right-of-way that runs from the Newport City boundary with Derby, north along the east side of Lake Memphremagog.
