BARTON – Thieves pepper sprayed the clerk and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the Barton One Stop late Friday night.

According to Sgt. Robert Cushing two people, who appeared to be male, walked into the store and demanded cash just after 11 p.m. Cushing declined to state the name of the clerk. Another weapon besides the pepper spray was also used, but he would not say what it was. He also would not say that the thieves were wearing.
Police believe the thieves took off in a car and not on foot. The clerk was treated for being pepper sprayed by the Barton Ambulance Service.
The store closed after the robbery. It reopened on Saturday.
Staff at the store declined to talk about the robbery.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the state police.
