GLOVER - A late morning fire at 330 Bear Call Road destroyed an unoccupied house and attached barn in Glover on Sunday.
According to Fire Chief Mark Wright, firefighters were called to the residence just 10:00 am. When they arrived on the scene, firefighters found a barn that was attached to a house was fully engulfed in flames. He said the house was not burning at that time, but flames quickly spread to it.
The blaze was brought under control at about 3 p.m. However, firefighters remained on the scene for several more hours to deal with hot spots. Wright said the wind, rain, heavy smoke and a not easily accessible water supply caused problems in battling the fire. Their water source came from the intersection of Beach Hill Road and Parker Pond, as well as from the Daniel's Pond.
Wright declined to state if the blaze is thought to be arson, but Detective Sgt. Mark Galle, from the Vermont State Police, said even though the investigation will take several more days, it does not appear suspicious.
Wright said the home is owned by someone from out of state.
Firefighters from Barton, Irasburg, Glover, Orleans and Westmore provided mutual aid on the scene, said Wright. In all, 20-25 firefighters and a half dozen or so trucks as well as the American Red Cross and The Glover Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
