January 8, 1925-August 20, 2008 ALBURGH/WILLISTON — Ruth J. Elliott, 83, a resident of Alburgh for many years passed away Wednesday evening, August 20, 2008 in the Vermont Respite House in Williston after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Ruth was born in Craftsbury, Vt. on Jan. 8, 1925 the daughter of the late Thomas and Lula (Patterson) Johnson.  She graduated from Craftsbury Academy in 1942 and from Bay Path Institute in Springfield, Mass. in 1944.  On May 19, 1949 she was married to Quentin Elliott who predeceased her on Oct. 10, 1996.
In her early years, Ruth served as a bookkeeper for several businesses in Newport in addition to owning and operating dairy farms along with her husband, Quentin in Newport and Brownington.  They later moved to Alburgh where they farmed for over 30 years prior to retiring.
Ruth was very involved in the local community and enjoyed visiting with people at her vegetable stand each summer and volunteering at the Vermont Welcome Center in Alburgh.  She was a member of the Old Stone United Methodist Church in Isle La Motte and the Islands in the Sun Senior Center in Alburgh.
Ruth leaves her two sons; Dwight Elliott of Willoughey, Ohio and Harry Elliott of Schenectady, N.Y.; four daughters, Margaret Lucrezi and her husband, Hank of Painesville, Ohio, Mary St. Francis and her husband, Michael of Alburgh, Tonia Maxfield and her husband, Raymond of Waterville and Tina Rich of Oracle, Ariz.; her sister-in-law, Patricia Page of Massachusetts as well as nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Old Stone United Methodist Church in Isle LaMotte with the pastor, The Reverend Marcheta Townsend officiating. Interment services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Beach Cemetery in Morgan Center. Gifts in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Alburgh Library Assn., P.O. Box 344, Alburgh, VT  05440, or to the Old Stone United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 152, Isle La Motte, VT  05463.
