JAY — Several Vermont officials, including Governor Jim Douglas, joined Bill Stenger, president and owner of Jay Peak Resort for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new slope side Jay Peak Hotel Monday morning.  Stenger thanked everyone for joining him to participate in the “auspicious occasion.”

The 57-suite hotel will be completed in early 2010, and will include a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, fitness center and ski/snowboard rental.  It is part of the first phase of construction.  The second phase of the project will include an even larger hotel with an indoor water park, making Jay Peak resort a weatherproof year-round destination place.
The construction and future plans for Jay Peak would not have been possible without the help of the governor, and the commerce department, and the federal government, Stenger said.  The federal government is allowing foreign investors help pay or the new development through the EB-5 program.
The economic vitality expected from the project was also discussed.  Many construction jobs have been created, and hundreds more will be added when the projects are completed.
Governor Douglas said that this project will have a major impact on the Northeast Kingdom and all of Vermont.
“Everyone worked together in Vermont so a thing like this can happen,” said Douglas.
With its legendary golf and skiing, Douglas described it as the most beautiful place on the planet...and now it will be even more welcoming he said.
“Jay Peak Ski and Summer Resort will now be even more exciting and it couldn’t have been done without Bill Stenger and the men and women who came before him,” said Representative Scott Wheeler after the ceremony. Wheeler said that Jay Peak has a world reputation.
“There is a huge interest from people all over the world about  Jay Peak.”
