Fern Cecile Meunier, 85, of Derby passed away on August 25, 2008 in Newport. She was born on March 28, 1923 in Barton, a daughter of Warner Mitchel and Ada Longley. On June 11, 1945 she married John Meunier who predeceased her in 1985. She was the original owner of the Green Valley Restaurant in Troy for 17 years. Then she cooked at Jay Peak and for North Country Union High School where she retired after 20 years. Fern was a volunteer for many functions at the Elks with her husband where he was a life-time member. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, crocheting, gardening, and cooking. She also enjoyed watching wildlife out of her back yard and looking at the mountains. She is survived by a daughter; Jean Driver and her husband Albert of Johnson; grandchildren Angela Vincelette and her husband Jonathan of Morrisville, Christina Holmes and her husband Gary of Johnson; great-grandchildren Jonathan Jr., Ruth, Luke Vincelette, Peter and Patrick Holmes. She was predeceased by her husband John Meunier; a daughter Mary Lou Meunier; and her sister Erma Merritt. Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road. Newport from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Troy at 11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Lowell.
