It was an exciting and exhausting day at the races last Saturday for the North Country Cross Country team. Signs of snow were found out on the course with another 7” predicted to arrive later in the afternoon and temperatures never climbed out of the mid-40s. The footing was much better than earlier in the month on this course, but after 8 races went through the course, it was pretty churned up in the lower loop.
The star of the day for North Country was on the girls side with Steph Watson (20:56) finishing 9th in the Div I race (11th in the State) qualifying her for New England’s in Rhode Island two weekends from now. The Varsity Girls Team finished 6th as a team in Division I and they were the 8th fastest team in the state. Scoring for the girl’s team were Haley Jo Tetreault (39th - 22:28), Erika Fortin (69th – 23:20), Jordan Howell ( 75th – 23:33) and Amber Lampiris-Tremba (85th – 23:47).
On the boys side, the Varsity Boys Team finished 10th in Division I and 14th in the state. The top finisher for NC was Trevor Howell with 60th overall (18:54) followed by Ross DeLaBruere in 19:04 (72nd) and Steven Bellevance in 19:06 (75th). Freshmen Sam Brunette had his fastest race of the season finishing in 19:42 (100th) and Senior Dave Durivage rounded out the scoring in 104th (19:47).
Steph Watson competes at the 2011 New England Cross Country Championships held on Saturday, November 12th, at Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, RI.
