ORLEANS-The Lake Region Rangers withstood a late game rally by visiting Richford, and held off the charging Falcons 8-7 for their fifth victory of the season.
Ranger catcher Corey Whitten made two big throws late. The first picked off a Richford runner at third with one out and the second nailed a stealing Falcon baserunner at second for the games last out.
The Rangers had built an 8-4 lead on the strength of three hits by Whitten and a pair by Jake Smith.
