NEWPORT– The North Country softball team put to bed their eight game losing streak on Thursday against CVU. The Falcons needed extra innings to get the job done, but they persevered, getting the 4-3 win and a huge monkey off of their backs.
North Country would wait until late in the game to get their offense going. Down 1-0 with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth starting pitcher Kayla Desheneau drew a walk to tie the game.
Emi Pare then drove in the go ahead run as Katie Ste. Marie was able to beat the throw home on the fielder's choice.
The Redhawks would go ahead again in the top of seventh, but Anna Bingham would come in from third on a passed ball to tie the game at three.
Desheneau and Pare would again be key offensive factors in extra innings. Desheneau's single got the Falcons started in the eighth. Kristin Guillette came in to run for the pitcher, and would advance to third after stealing second and a bunt single from Pare.
A wild pitch would seal the deal for North Country as Guillette scored to send the Falcon faithful home happy.
