LYNDON–Haley Kennedy and Emma English combined for 6 hits in their Babe Ruth fastpitch softball debuts, as Lake Region held off the Lyndon Orioles Wednesday evening, 8-6.
The Rangers opened their Babe Ruth season (for ages 13-16) with 13 hits to back the strong pitching performance of Michelle Thibeault (six hits allowed, seven strikeouts).
Kennedy led off the game with the first of her four hits on the night, and later came in to score on a Chelsey Thibeault ground out to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
The host Orioles took the lead with three unearned runs in the third inning, a lead that stood until the Ranger bats finally got untracked in the fifth. Back to back RBI hits by Hannah Leroux and Chelsea Poginy put the visiting Rangers up, 4-3.
The Rangers tacked on another run in the 6th inning to make it 5-3, before booming triples by Leroux and Michelle Thibeault, along with a gap double by English plated three more to put LR up by a count of 8-3. Those runs would prove to be important as the spunky Orioles would push three runs of their own across the plate in the bottom of the 7th, before Thibeault squelched the home team’s rally for the eventual 8-6 victory.
The Rangers are at home to host Morrisville Friday night at Lake Region. Game time is 6:00.
