DERBY–The Women’s Soccer League semi-finals were held at the North Country Junior High School on Wednesday night. The twin billing featured number three Colombia Forrest taking on number two Spates and number four Fortin Transportation squaring off against top ranked NC Pink a.k.a. what seems to bare a striking resemblance to the projected 2011 North Country girls high school soccer team.
In the two versus three game, Colombia let an early lead slip away, as Spates was able to tie the game, and force it into overtime. When no one was able to score in extra time, the teams headed to penalty kicks where Colombia Forrest picked up the win as birthday girl Tracy Muzerall beat Spates goalie Ericka White for the winning goal that sent her team to the championship.
In the other game, NC Pink got off to an early lead and never let up as they cruised to the 4-1 win over Fortin’s. The women in black had many chances to score, but Pink’s goaltender Lindsay Geoffery got some help from her three friends behind her: the crossbar and two posts.
Colombia Forrest and NC Pink will square off tonight at Gardner park, game time is at 6:00.
