OXBOW – The Lake Region Lady Rangers suffered their first defeat of the 2011 campaign, as the Oxbow Olympians blanked them 4-0. The Blue and White gave up 4 first half goals and played from behind the entire game. Freshman Goaltender Jordan Cowles made the start in place of the injured Allie Hall. Hall is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain earlier in the week at practice. Coach Brad Urie remained optimistic after the defeat.
“Jordan stepped in and played well today in Allie’s place. We gave up 4 goals in the first half and by that time it was too late. We settled down in the 2nd and outplayed them, but we were just too far behind. We are still looking for a way to put together the full 90 minutes of soccer. We are a little inconstant still.”
Coach Urie praised his young goaltender as well as other members of his team, “Hannah Dean really stepped up and shut down their [Oxbow] top scorer, Riley Johnson, in the 2nd half. And, once again I was very pleased with the play of Ashley Locke. She continues to distribute the ball well.”
The loss drops the Rangers to 2-1-1 on the season and they will look to get back to their winning ways when the travel to Enosburg. The face-off with the Hornets is set for Friday, September 23rd. With the game scheduled to kick-off at 4:30.
