ST. JOHNSBURY–On Saturday, NCUHS’s cross-country team raced at the NVAC Mountain Division XC Championships on a hilly and muddy St Johnsbury course.
The North Country girls finished 3rd out of 13 teams with the top North Country runner senior captain Steph Watson leading the charge in 4th (21:47). Haley Jo Tetreault also broke into the top ten with a strong race placing her 9th (22:05). North Country’s next three scorers were Caitlin Smith (senior), Jordan Howell (freshmen) and Erika Fortin (senior) all finishing in the top 30 to help the Falcon’s to the third place finish.
On the boys side, the team finished 5th out of 16 teams with the top boys finisher sophomore Ross DeLaBruere in 19th with a time of 19:44. Senior Stephen Bellavance and Junior Ben Dillner had break through races finishing in 25th (20:01) and 28th (20:15) respectively. Junior captain Trevor Roberts was the next NC finisher in 29th place (20:20) with freshmen Sam Brunnette 5 places back in 34th (20:36).
Next Saturday is the last guaranteed meet of the season with a trip to Thetford for the Vermont State Meet. The top 25 individuals and top 6 teams at the State Meet qualify for New England’s in Rhode Island this year on the 12th of Nov.
