As James Ingalls enters the 2012 campaign, his 9th at the helm of the Rangers, he will look to rebound from a tough 2011, in which his team went 9-13, including a 2nd-round playoff exit at the hands of Leland and Gray High School. This was after the team won an impressive 70 games combined in the previous 3 seasons.
In order to turn around the program, Coach Ingalls will need to rely on his group of seniors, to provide leadership both on and off the court. His seniors include: Caleb Royer, Tony Stuart, Seth Lawson, James Margola, and Darik Messier.
The remaining Rangers are Junior Drew Gallup, Sophomores Alex Beauregard, Shaquille Urie, and Marquel Webster, and Freshman Matthew Messier and Dakota McAlister.
Even with the program moving to Division 2 for the upcoming season, Coach Ingalls still has expectations set very high for his ball club and feels that they will be able to compete night in and night out. “Post season will be different,” Ingalls said, “but, during the regular season we will still compete in the Mountain [Division], and I think we will be very competitive.”
“We picked up tough games against the Division 2 State Champions Missisquoi, who has the state’s best player, and it will be interesting to see how we far against them,” Ingalls added.”
Of his game plan Coach Ingalls said that, “We [the team] have the key pieces to make a big run. We have perimeter players; we have good young talent, and a lot of size. We want to slow the game down and really pound the boards. And work the game from the inside out.”
“Drew Gallup is going to be a player to watch out for,” Coach Ingalls said. “He has the ability to get hot at any time and he can hit a shot from just about anywhere.”
The Rangers will kick off their 2012 campaign with a home match-up against the Hazen Wildcats, on Tuesday, December 13th. This budding rivalry has gotten heated of the past couple of years with Hazen beating the Rangers in 2010 for the Division 3 title and the Rangers taking 3 out of the last 5 regular season matchups. Game time will be set for 7:00 in the Don Harter Memorial Gymnasium.
