JERICHO–The North Country boys basketball team's season came to an end on Wednesday night with a 76-38 loss to the top seeded Mount Mansfield Cougars.
North Country had a tough time competing with the larger Cougar squad, and while it was close early, MMU was able to power past the Falcons, en-route to the win.
“The score was 10-6 and Caleb had back-to-back drives, but they didn’t go in, and they (MMU) came right back and took what could have been a tie score and made it 15-6,”said Coach Brian Bonvechio.
Jason Hatin led the Falcons with ten points, while Caleb Prue was limited to just eight.
North Country finishes the year with a 6-15 record, and have some promising talent coming through the system that the team can use to help build towards the future.
Leaving the Falcons this year due to graduation are seniors Josh Puckett, Matthew Benn, Steven Raboin, Taylor Prue, and Devon Martin.
Said Bonvechio of his out-going seniors, “Taylor played for me for three years, and he was a great teammate. Devon, I don’t think anyone works as hard as he does. Steve Raboin was a solid little player for us. Josh Puckett was starting to really help us out when he got hurt, and that was unfortunate, and it was nice to have Matthew Benn with us this season. These guys will be missed.”
