The North Country Union High School Girls Golf team wrapped up their season with a very respectable fourth place finish at the Division I State Finals at the Proctor Pittsford Country Club on Tuesday.
The best two out of three scores are tallied for each team in the tournament. The NCU team was represented by seniors Bailey Walker and Eilish Muir, and sophomore Paige Gagnon.
Bailey anchored the team with a score of 102, an improvement of four strokes over last year. “My driver worked great all day, just too many three putts.” she reported. Unfortunately Eilish’s score went the other way, carding a 136 for the day.
“Trouble with chipping,” she said. Beginner Paige Gagnon had the privilege of starting the tournament before a crowd of thirty players and officials. Up to the task, she hit a booming drive right down the middle of the fairway, and shot a 129 for the day.
“With experience, Paige has the potential of becoming a great golfer.” Coach Hampton pointed out. “However,” he continued, “We will surely miss Eilish and Bailey, and their contributions to the team and banter during those long rides to tournament.”
