NEWPORT – Dawn Gray, who is no stranger to the Northeast Kingdom, grew up in Island Pond and she used to deliver papers for the Newport Daily Express. She is now a well-known author and is promoting her newly published book “S.P.I.R.I.T: Fire Storm.”
She will be at the Woodknot Bookshop this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to sign copies and to discuss any questions you may have about the paranormal.
Gray has published several books that cover many areas of the paranormal and the supernatural, including her first self-published book “Raven” and a 7-book series “Vampire Legacy.”
One of Gray's inspirations for choosing to write in this genre was the movie “Lost Boys.” Another motive is her personal encounters with paranormal activity. Growing up, and also now in her adult life, she had some unexplainable things happen to her.
For instance, when her son was just a toddler, and they were in the living room of her old Massachusetts home, she noticed he started giggling uncontrollably as he looked toward the kitchen.
Her first response was to tell her son to ask his great-grandfather to stop making him laugh, even though his great-grandfather had already passed away.
She immediately called her father to let him know what had happened and he replied, “It’s ok, I saw him earlier today.” Gray uses experiences like this one, and the places they take place, as a basis for her books.
As for her book S.P.I.R.I.T: Fire Storm, Gray stated in an interview Wednesday that the beginning of the book is taken from an ending of a dream she once had. Furthermore, the photo on the cover of the book is an actual photo she took of a house, located in Island Pond, on a rainy 4th of July.
When you first start to read S.P.I.R.I.T: Fire Storm, you are immediately brought into a chaotic scene. The main characters Samantha Ricketts, who goes by Sam, and Zander Smith are in the middle of an explosion and everyone is trying to run to safety. Amidst all of the confusion as to what had just happened, Sam realizes that she doesn’t know where she is or how she got there. Then she spots a large Mac truck parked in the middle of a corn field that keeps fading in and out of sight. Apparently no one was supposed to be able to see the truck. So Zander has to explain what Samantha is seeing, why he is there, and tell her that he is a member of S.P.I.R.I.T, the Special Paranormal Investigative Research and Intelligence Team.
This book has it all: action, suspense, adventure, paranormal activity, and of course a great love story. From the beginning to the very end, this book keeps you in suspense and leaves you wanting more of this dynamic duo and their encounters with the paranormal, which is a good thing because Dawn Gray is currently working on this book’s sequel.
