Robert M. Nelson, 73, died at his home in Albany in the care of his loving companion, Sadie Watters. He was born in Albany, May 12, 1939, the son of Maurice and Ethel “Jackie” (Shatney) Nelson.
He attended grade school in Albany and was a 1957 graduate of Craftsbury Academy. He served his country from 1959 to 1964 in the U.S. Army of which about 1 1/2 years in Bamburg, Germany.
Bob was a welder, working in all types of welding. He worked most of his life as a self-employed welder from his garage in Albany. Bob was also a fire chief for the town of Albany fire department for many years. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #23 in Orleans and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, AERIE 4329, in Newport.
He leaves his brothers: Donald Nelson and wife Shirley of Albany and Douglas Nelson and his friend Rosemary of Derby, as well as his companion of many years, Sadie Watters, nieces, nephews and extended family.
To honor his wishes, there will be no service. The Malcolm R. Davis Funeral Home of Craftsbury Common is assisting the family with arrangements.
