On Monday, the UCA Crusader boys picked up their first win in their second game of the young soccer season, defeating Mid-Vermont 5-2.
Jon DeLaBruere opened the scoring about 4 minutes into the game with a beautiful shot into the corner of the net from outside the 18.
The Crusaders were just getting started.
Justin Limoge and Dale Martell’s goals increased the lead to 3-0 before Mid-Vermont got on the board on a header by Austin Sayer.
Sayer was able to redirect a corner into the net to cut the lead to 3-1.
But UCA answered before the end of the half when Paul Saaman, the team’s sweeper, scored an unassisted goal to bring the score to 4-1 after forty minutes.
In the second half, Mid-Vermont gained momentum, but keeper Chris DeLaBruere, thanks to some amazing saves in the net, kept the Crusaders on top.
Justin Limoges found the back of the net a second time to increase the lead to 5-1.
Limoge’s tally was answered by a goal from Mid-Vermont's Eric Li.
But the Crusaders' defense held their ground and UCA ended the game on top 5-2.
Now the boys will have the rest of the week to get ready for this weekend’s home opener as the Crusaders host Craftsbury Academy on Saturday at 1pm at Gardner Park.
