NEWPORT–UCA honored it’s outgoing seniors on Wednesday during a doubleheader against Concord.
In the boys game, Ji Kim’s hatrick set the pace in the Crusaders 5-0 win.
Justin Limoges and Ji Hoon Park, whose birthday was also on Wednesday, had the other goals.
It was a slow start for UCA, with the score tied 0-0 at the half, but the second was the polar opposite of the first, and the boys erupted for five goals to net the win.
The Crusaders also had a special guest appearance in goal as Marc Quirion played goalie for the last fifteen minutes to earn the shut-out with Chris DeLaBruere.
The boys were scheduled to face Williamstown on Saturday, but due to injuries, they are choosing to forfeit the game and rest their players since a play-off spot is locked up.
Their regular season record for 2012 is 6-5-3.
The girls picked up a 1-0 win on the strength of Laura Libby’s tally off of a Concord defender.
The win leaves the Lady Crusaders unbeaten in their last five games (3-0-2).
“My girls played a great,” said coach Molly Smith.
“I believe we can compete with the best. I am so impressed with the turn around we are having and it is coming at the perfect time as we clinched a playoff spot with our win.”
Christina Maxwell was sharp on defense and Nicole Guest and Moriah Lafoe excelled in the UCA passing game.
Lydia Samaan had four saves as the Lady Crusaders move to 3-7-3 on the year.
They will be in action at Gardner Park on Saturday against Williamstown at 10:00 to wrap up their regular season.
