BNEWPORT CITY – When a life is in the balance, having the right equipment at the right time can make all the difference. That's why Newport Ambulance Service (NAS) wants to add two Lucas CPR devices to its fleet. Jay Wood, division manager for NAS, said the service has been in the process of obtaining federal grants to purchase the equipment.
“They are machines that do CPR very, very efficiently,” said Wood. “That is the big thing now when we talk about cardiac arrest.”
NAS members are trained in CPR, but according to Wood, the new machines are much more effective in saving lives. Wood said North Country Hospital has had such a device for about a year.
