Brighton–– At the Brighton Planning Committee meeting held Monday, the first official notice that the Dollar General store intends to build in Island Pond was a topic of discussion. The chain store, which has expanded rapidly into Vermont in the past few years, has contacted the town and representatives are scheduled to be at the next planning meeting to be held on October 17. Preliminary plans include purchasing the now defunct Brighton Motor Sports property on the corner of Cross and Alder Street and also the Critters and Creations store at 39 Alder Street. The Dollar General store would be newly constructed after the current structures on the two properties are demolished.
