Burlington Beats No. Country in Extra Innings

NEWPORT–Anna Bingham hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, but Burlington would score in the eighth, as the Falcons fell 4-3 in extra innings.It was a much better outing for the girls, who were coming off of a 23-2 loss to Vergennes just two days earlier.While it was a low scoring game overall, things got off to a bang when Erika Lyon went deep off of NCU's starting pitcher Taylor Blake.Blake would settle down after that, and hold the Seahorses off the board until the seventh.Meanwhile, the Falcons waited until the 6th inning before tying the game.Blake started the rally with a single, and eventually came around to score, making it 1-1.In the seventh, Mallory Cross and Lyon both singled and scored to push the score to 3-1.In the Falcon half of the seventh, Maddie Mosher hit a two-out single, followed by Bingham's blast to left-center, and we were off to extra innings.Burlington's Nicky Raub would come across to score the game-winning run on a past-ball in the top of the eighth to give the Seahorses the win.Taylor Blake went the distance for NCU, striking out 6 while walking 1, as the Falcons move to 0-3 on the year.Ilona Maher got the complete game win, fanning 6 and walking 2.The Falcons will travel across the state on Wednesday to face Rice at 4:30.
