Career Day Another Big Success

DERBY, VT - The annual North Country Union Junior High Career Day was another huge success. More than 50 individuals from around the community spoke to students about their career fields and answered student questions.To prepare, students were given a list of the options available and were able to choose the presentations they wanted to visit during the day. They prepared questions to ask the guest speakers. Guest presenters included students from the North Country Career Center.Pat Gelo, who works at the junior high a couple days a week and runs her own consulting firm, organizes the event. She was very pleased with how the day went. She said the presenters were excellent and responded well to the students. Gelo said that she and the presenters were very impressed with the students, and many presenters have signed up to come back next year.Gelo plans the day along with Principal Nicole Corbett and the junior high school staff. Gelo talked about how rewarding the experience is and said she hears from adults who tell her they chose their fields based on attending career day at the junior high.Career Day is an opportunity for all students to begin thinking about their futures and their goals and to learn what the North Country Career Center has to offer, Gelo said.
