Coventry School Budget Meeting Tonight

COVENTRY – The Coventry Village School Board will hold an informational meeting 6 p.m. at the school tonight to discuss Tuesday’s budget vote. Polls on Tuesday will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.The budget is $2,563,600, up $94,528 from the current year.Some of the expenses this year include $14,621 for a para-educator, a position the school hasn’t had at least for the past three years. Instate tuition is $574,000, a $30,922 decrease from the current year. Private school tuition is $50,800, a $37,800 increase. The school board increased the guidance position from 40 percent to 60 percent. That increased the salary by $6,900. For revenue, Coventry Village School will receive $2,386,520 from the state, a $66,933 increase. However, the federal government is only pitching in $35,580, a $17,411 decrease from the current year. Coventry Village School is putting in $130,000 from the fund balance from the previous year. Income for education spending grant is $1,898,467.Last year’s tax rate was 1.1670. The current rate will be 1.1873. The tax increase, based on a $100,000 home, will $20.30.On Town Meeting Day, voters will be asked to approve transferring $84,000 of audited fund balance from the 2010 fiscal year into the capital improvement fund.School Board Chair Viola Poirier said students entering or leaving the school affect the budget as does state-aid, which sometimes is not known until after Town Meeting Day.
