Falcon Girls’ Take Two From U-32 in Monday’s Doubleheader

NEWPORT- The Falcons girls' tennis team played a doubleheader against U-32 on Monday, as part of a make-up from an early season cancellation.Playing under "Pro-style" rules to speed up the game, the Falcons won the first match 5-2 and then finished off the Raiders 4-3 in the second."These matches were really important to us," said coach Marie George. "The victories gave us wins number three and four on the season, and we really needed them."In singles play, Erin Connor defeated Rhiannon Rosamillia 8-4 for the Raiders’ only singles win as the rest of the Falcons all won their matches.Kelsey O'Donnell won 8-3, as did Carlie Diette. India Bluett had an 8-5 win over Phina Sauces, and in the closest singles contest Annie Arcoleo defeated Elizabeth Gilbert 8-7.On the doubles court, Michaela Stanley and Danielle Therrien lost 8-5 while Moriah Lafoe and Sonya Hinton won 8-2.Both North Country and U-32 made some changes in the second match, the Raiders by choice, the Falcons by circumstance.Rosamillia's woes continued with her second loss of the day, again losing to Connor.U-32 picked up a second singles win when Gilbert defeated Therrien at the number five slot. Danielle replaced Arcoleo, who had to leave for that evening's concert.O'Donnell and Bluett continued their winning ways, defeating the same opponents they played earlier.Alli Beliveau moved from singles to doubles, teaming with Sophie Warner to beat Stanley and new partner Dyeng Dao 8-5.Lafoe and Hinton also picked up win number two on the day, besting Anna Valenti and Sarah Wells 8-5.The match, knotted at 3-3 came down to the number four singles match between Diette and Sarah Faber.Diette was clutch, winning the match 8-4 to seal the second victory of the day for North Country."Carlie played two of the best matches of her season," said George.
