Falcons Battle Hard in 6-4 Defeat

NEWPORT–"I have been around high school baseball for a long time, and I haven't seen many better games than this."Those were the first words from Coach Bonvechio after North Country's tough 6-4 loss to Missisquoi on Wednesday."It was well played, not many errors, some exciting plays, well hit balls, good pitching from both teams, it was a fun game to be part of, I'm just sorry we ended up on the losing end."MVU got on the board with a pair of runs in the first, but North Country came right back and tied the game with a a two run double for Joey Paxton. The Thunderbirds would jump ahead in the third and in the fifth and again the Falcons would come right back, this time it was Jon Boyer doing the damage with his triple in the third and double in the fifth to keep the score even."I expected a close competitive game with them, I thought we were right in the same boat and it turned out that way," said Bonvechio. In the top of the sixth Bonvechio went to Connor Burke to relive Tom Blake, who had pitched well for the first five and 1/3innings."I am really proud of Blake, he is such a battler. He is not afraid to throw a ball inside when he needs to jam a big hitter. He is a smart smart kid." Burke had pitched the day before against Lyndon, and the skipper purposely had him on a short leash in hopes of having him available for Tuesday's contest."I removed Burke after twenty-four pitches to give him an opportunity to pitch today. I figured the quicker he got back out there after a rough outing, the better off he'd be. He struggled with the first couple hitters, after that he was as good as I've seen him."Unfortunately for North Country, those first couple batters would be the difference in the game as MVU plated two men with the aid of three wild pitches for the go ahead runs.
