Hockey Round-up: Boys Win Thriller, Girls Shut Down MVU

BURLINGTON–Ross DeLaBruere scored 2:10 into overtime to give the North Country Falcons a season series split with the South Burlington Rebels."We played well tonight," said NCU coach Ryan Jacobs.DeLaBruere's game-winner was his third of the evening.Things did not get off to a great start for the Falcons, as they were down 2-0 before Ross and Ryan Paul evened things up late in the first period.After a scoreless second, the Rebels jumped ahead 3-2 6:16 into the third.Paul tied things up, but South Burlington went back out ahead with just seconds left in the game.Trailing 4-3 with under a minute to go, North Country pulled their goaltender for an extra skater.The move paid off, as Ross dumped in his 2nd of the game to send it into overtime before eventually scoring the winner.Dana Marsh stopped 30 shots in the win.Paul had five points on the night and DeLaBruere finished with four.The Falcons are now 11-7-1 and will wrap up their season at home on Wednesday against Rutland at 7:00.GIRLS HOCKEYNo. Country 7, MVU 1JAY–The North Country Falcons completed the season series sweep over Missisquoi Valley Union with their one-sided win on Wednesday."After a slow start in the first, we really jumped on them in the second," said NCU coach Claude Paul. "By the time we got to the third, our passing was really clicking."Like Paul said, it was slow going in the first, and the opening fifteen minutes ended at 0-0.Taylor Morley kicked off the action in the second. scoring on a set up by Crystal Moss and Whitney Bernier.Anyas Morin fed Savannah Alberghini-Giroux for goal number two, and Bernier closed out the second period scoring with the assist going to Morley.In the third, the Falcons got goals from Alberghini-Giroux, Morin, Crystal Moss and Bernier.Morin and Bernier each had 3 points, and Morley and Alberghini-Giroux both had 2.Mikaella Doran stopped 13 shots in the win.Now 11-7-1, the Falcons will close out their season on Wednesday when they host Rutland.Puck drops at 5:00.
