Lightning Grab 11-8 Win Over Vermont Outlaws

NEWPORT–In what may be their final game of their season, the OEC Lightning shook off a couple of tough outings and defeated the Vermont Outlaws 11-8.The Lightning got off to a good start, scoring early and often to grab a 7-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.After three scoreless innings from Bryce Carter, Seth Prue entered the game.The Outlaws would strike for seven runs, not all of them earned, and the contest was tied heading into the fifth.In the top of the frame Vermont pushed across the go-ahead run, and going into the bottom half of the fifth, OEC had some catching up to do.Playing a little small-ball, the Lightning tied the game on a suicide squeeze.Prue then got a little revenge, as his single drove in the run that put the home team up for good.Cody Chaput added a little insurance when he drove a ball into the gap to bring in a pair of Lightning.A scary moment occurred at the end of the game for the visiting squad.The Outlaws’ left and center fielders had an ugly collision in the outfield, leaving both players on the ground in pain.The two boys were taken to the hospital for observation, and there has been no word on their condition.It remains to be seen if the Lightning will play again this summer, as the fall sports season gets underway on the 12th of August for football players, and a week later for the other sports.
