Morin Medals at Division II Championships

MIDDLEBURY–Lake Region's Matt Morin and Mount Mansfield's Jona Scott were paired up for play on Wednesday for the Division II boys state championship in Middlebury. The two went back and forth all day long, but Morin emerged victorious over Scott, shooting a six over par 77 to Scott's 81."It was pretty back and forth with Jona," said Morin the day after his big win, "The course played really tough, the weather conditions were really good, although it got a little windy towards the end. I was pretty happy with the way I played."Assistant Ranger Coach Sylvain Gagnon, who was able to watch Morin for the first five holes and the final three, said Middlebury had "one ragged course" and that onlookers noticed that Matt really had his head in the game.It was not an easy road to victory for Morin, as the junior admitted there were some rough sports for him throughout the day."Keeping the ball in play was a big one, Jona was making a lot of pars and I really had match him. It was quite the battle."Morin was able to rebound from his errant shots to make a lot of the greens, sink the pars, and stay on pace with Scott before eventually coming away with the trophy.Morin has qualified for the New England's, and after this school year he will be staying busy on the links this summer."I am going to try to qualify for the Vermont Am, I'm going to playing in the Vermont Open this up coming week. I am playing a lot of challenge cups in the New England area, and practice to try and get as good as I can."Morin says this season gave him a lot of confidence in his game which he will use to continue his course in the game of golf.
