UCA Boys Continue to Grow Through Pain, Lose 1-0 to Richford

RICHFORD–UCA hit the road to take on Richford on Monday, and despite the 1-0 loss, Coach DeLaBruere was thrilled with her teams’ efforts.“We played an unbelievable game! 7 minutes into the 1st half, we lost center striker Ji Kim for the remainder of the game when he collided with 2 Richford players and hyperextended his knee. Loosing Ji on the field was a big loss for us, but my boys were up for the challenge!”The injury resulted in an adjustment of personnel on the field. Chris DeLaBruere went up to the striker position where he had 14 shots on net throughout the game. The two teams went into half-time tied 0-0. In the second half, UCA continued to dominate both defensively and offensively. Dale Martell had a great game in goal with 14 saves, unfortunately Richford benefited from a shot on net that took a bad bounce and skimmed past Martell to make it 1-0. Paul Saaman and Marc Quirion saved the day time and again on defense, and 8th grader “Justin Limoges had a solid standout 80 minutes in the midfield with endless energy to continually be where we needed him, challenging and ending up with the ball,” said DeLaBruere. Though they out shot Richford 31-23, The Crusaders were unable to get on the scoreboard, but that didn’t dampen the Coaches feelings about the game. “I am extremely proud of the incredible effort of my team today and watched them bring their game to a new level!”UCA travels to Craftsbury on Thursday, the will host the Academy in the back half of a home and home series on Saturday.
