Wildcats Win Season Opener 3-2 Against Rutland

Great weather, great fields, great fans and a fantastic soccer game. The U14 Wildcat team coached by Jen and Eric Daigle and Chris Goulet took to the field against Summit FC U-14 Girls’ White team from Rutland These two teams were equal in skill, ability and determination. The Wildcats struck first. Olivia Miller, with an assist from Faith Gosselin, shot one past the goalie to put the Wildcats on the score board. After the goal the play went back and forth, staying around mid-field for a large part of the first half. The Wildcats did keep control of the game for most of the first half, goalie Sarah Bilodeau didn’t see much action because of her protective defense and a determined offensive line keeping the ball in Summit’s half. Roughly 15 minutes after knocking in her first goal, Olivia Miller, with an assist this time from Dasha Plotnikov, struck again for her second tally of the game. The score stayed 2-0 Wildcats at halftime. The second half proved to be a bit more of a struggle for the home town team. Summit came off the bench on fire and was not ready to hand the game over to the Wildcats. Summit dribbled, passed and out shot the Wildcats in the second half. Derby goalie Brooke Breault got a fierce workout from Summit and she did her team proud. Brooke kept the Wildcats in the game. Summit was able to score twice in the second half, but after a dangerous play in front of the Summit goal, Amy DeLaBruere was awarded a direct kick and she hit the bulls eye, scoring the winning goal of the game. The Wildcats will travel to Middlebury next Friday to square off against the Middlebury Panthers U-14 team. They are back on home turf on Sunday the 13th at 4:30pm
