WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. intelligence officials have determined a Russian effort is underway to create a pretext for its troops to further invade Ukraine, and Moscow has already prepositioned operatives to conduct "a false-flag operation" in eastern Ukraine, according to the White House.

BARTON-The selectboard reviewed a rough draft of the 2022 selectboard and highway budgets. The town realized surpluses in both budgets this past fiscal year. As with the year prior, a portion of the surpluses will be used to reduce Barton property owner's tax liability this year.

NEWPORT CITY- Governor Phil Scott announced the state will receive tens of thousands of rapid at home tests for early detection of the Covid-19 virus. 140,000 tests will be distributed free of charge or paid for via insurance.

BARTON- The Covid pandemic may have temporarily stopped any number of local traditions, including the annual Santa Run held in Orleans Village. Proceeds from the fundraiser are donated to the Mary "Halo" Wright Foundation which focuses on families afflicted with cancer.
